Your 2 days camel trekking Marrakech to Erg Chegaga begins as you leave the city behind and enter the winding mountain roads of the High Atlas. The scenery changes quickly bright red cliffs, scattered Berber villages, and terraced slopes appear as you gain altitude. Crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, you’ll enjoy sweeping views across the peaks and valleys that form one of Morocco’s most spectacular routes.
By late morning, you reach Ait Ben Haddou, one of the country’s most iconic historic sites. This ancient ksar, built entirely from clay and straw, invites you to wander through narrow alleys, climb to panoramic viewpoints, and imagine life inside its fortified walls. It has starred in many films and remains one of Morocco’s cultural treasures.
The road then leads toward Ouarzazate, where the desert horizon becomes more visible. As the landscape grows more arid, palm groves and traditional adobe villages mark your approach to M’Hamid, the last town before the Sahara begins. Past M’Hamid, the paved road disappears, giving way to off-road tracks that lead into the deep desert.
By late afternoon, you reach the towering dunes of Erg Chigaga, one of the least-touched and most expansive dune fields in Morocco. Here, a camel caravan awaits to guide you across the golden sands toward your camp. As the sun begins to set, the skies turn warm shades of gold and red, offering a perfect moment for photos and quiet reflection.
Upon arrival at your Berber desert camp, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner around the fire, followed by a peaceful night in your private tent, surrounded by absolute desert silence and a sky full of stars.
