From there, you travel across the desert plains to visit a nomadic family, sharing tea and stories while gaining insight into their simple, resilient way of life. The region is also known for its abundance of ancient fossils, found scattered across the desert remnants of a prehistoric ocean.

Depending on the season, you may also stop at Dayet Srij, the area’s largest seasonal lake, which sometimes fills with flamingos and migratory birds. For adventurers, there’s an exciting chance to drive part of the old Paris–Dakar route, an iconic off-road experience through rugged dunes and open desert landscapes. Day 4:Erg Chebbi - Ziz Valley - Tunnel of the Legionnaire - Fes

After breakfast, begin the journey northward. The road passes through a region of oasis towns before reaching the magnificent Ziz Valley, home to Morocco’s largest palm grove. From a scenic viewpoint, you can take in the dramatic contrast between lush greenery and steep canyon walls carved by the river over centuries.

Your drive continues through the Tunnel of the Legionnaire, an impressive passage carved in the 1930s that leads straight into the heart of the valley’s rock formations. As the landscapes transform again, you ascend into more mountainous scenery before arriving back in Fes late in the afternoon.
